FAQ
Questions business owners actually ask
Plain answers about AI search visibility, reviews and reputation, our two offers, and how working with tSMG actually goes.
The Company
Who we are and how we think
- What does The Strategic Marketing Group do?
- The Strategic Marketing Group (tSMG) is a business growth company, not a traditional marketing agency. We help established local and regional B2C businesses grow by improving three connected things: how easily customers and AI systems can find them, how easily customers can choose them, and how well they keep and grow the customers they already have. Instead of selling campaigns or deliverables by the hour, we build and improve the systems that produce customers.
- Who does tSMG work with?
- Established, owner-led local and regional B2C businesses — companies that already have customers, staff and a reputation to protect. Our work suits a business that wants to grow deliberately rather than start over. We are usually a poor fit for brand-new startups with no customer base yet, or for businesses looking for the cheapest possible ad management.
- What does “Be Irreplaceable by Design” mean?
- It means your position in the market is the result of deliberate structure, not luck. A business that is easy to find, obviously the right choice, and genuinely valued by its existing customers is very hard for a competitor to displace. “By design” is the important half: these are things you can build on purpose rather than hope for.
- What are Be Found, Be Chosen and Be Valued?
- They are the three stages of the tSMG framework. Be Found covers discovery: AI search visibility, Generative Engine Optimization, local and map visibility, and consistent business information. Be Chosen covers the decision: reputation, customer reviews and the trust signals that make you the obvious pick. Be Valued covers what happens after the sale: retention, repeat business, VIP and referral programs, and customer community. They work as one system — visibility without reputation produces traffic that does not convert, and reputation without retention means winning the same customer twice.
- What does a business growth consultant actually do?
- Rather than selling a single deliverable such as ads or a website, a business growth consultant looks at the connected mechanics by which a business is found, chosen and valued, identifies which link is actually limiting growth, and improves that link first. Often the answer is not more marketing spend — it is fixing inconsistent business information, a thin review profile, or the absence of any system for bringing customers back.
AI Search & GEO
How AI changes being found
- What is AI search visibility?
- AI search visibility is whether AI assistants — ChatGPT, Google's AI answers, Perplexity and others — name your business when someone asks for a recommendation in your category and area. It is different from a keyword ranking. There is no list of ten links: the assistant gives an answer, and either you are in it or you are not.
- What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?
- GEO is the practice of making a business understandable, credible and quotable to generative AI systems, so those systems can confidently recommend it. In practice that means clear and consistent information about who you are, where you operate and what you do; strong third-party corroboration such as reviews and citations; and content that plainly answers the questions customers ask.
- How is GEO different from traditional SEO?
- Traditional SEO largely aims at ranking a page in a list of results for a query. GEO aims at being included in a synthesized answer. SEO tends to focus on pages, keywords and links; GEO focuses on your business as an entity — is its identity clear, is its information consistent everywhere, is it corroborated by others, and does it answer real questions. The two overlap heavily: technically sound, crawlable, well-structured content helps both.
- Is SEO dead?
- No. Search behavior is changing, not disappearing. People still search, and traditional results still drive substantial business — while a growing share of discovery now happens through AI-generated answers. The disciplines overlap: the crawlability, structure, accuracy and authority that help traditional search also help AI systems understand and recommend you. The honest summary is that SEO is necessary but no longer sufficient.
- Why might a good local business not appear in AI recommendations?
- Usually because the signals AI relies on are weak or inconsistent, not because the business is bad. Common causes: business name, address, phone or category differ across the web; the website does not clearly state what the business does or where it serves; few, old or unanswered reviews; no independent mentions or citations; and content that never answers the questions customers actually ask. A great business with quiet, inconsistent signals is effectively invisible to an AI system.
- How do customer reviews affect AI and search recommendations?
- Reviews are among the strongest independent signals about a business, so they influence both what customers decide and what AI systems are willing to assert. Volume matters, but so do recency, steadiness over time, the specifics customers mention, and whether the business responds. A steady flow of recent, specific reviews with thoughtful responses reads as an active, trustworthy business — to a person comparing three options and to a model summarizing them.
The Audit
The AI Search Visibility Audit
- What is an AI Search Visibility Audit?
- It is a manually researched audit of how AI platforms answer your customers' questions. A tSMG strategist writes 10 real customer search questions for your category and area, runs each of them against 3 leading AI platforms — ChatGPT, Google AI and Perplexity — for 30 visibility checks in total, and reads the actual answers. You get where you appear, which competitors get named instead of you and how often, what your review and reputation pattern signals, and a short prioritized list of what to change first.
- What does the Audit cost?
- The AI Search Visibility Audit is $97, one time. There is no subscription requirement and no upsell needed to receive the findings.
- How long does the Audit take?
- Your customized Audit report is delivered within 3–4 business days of receiving your intake form. It is not an instant automated score: a person writes the questions, runs the checks and interprets the answers, which is why it takes a few days rather than a few seconds.
- Do I have to write the AI questions myself?
- No. You tell us the basics about your business — location, services, ideal customer and the competitors you care about — and tSMG writes the customer questions. Knowing which questions actually matter in your category is part of what you are buying.
TrustStack
TrustStack™
- What is TrustStack?
- TrustStack is the tSMG subscription for AI Visibility + Reputation Growth. It covers automated customer review requests, reputation monitoring, AI-assisted review responses drafted in your voice for your approval, review velocity and trust-signal tracking, a re-run of the AI Search Visibility Audit every 90 days, and a short prioritized list of recommendations each quarter.
- What does TrustStack cost?
- TrustStack is $147 per month for one business location. One system, one price — no tiers and no add-on modules.
- Does TrustStack include ongoing AI visibility measurement and re-auditing?
- Yes. Your first AI Search Visibility Audit establishes the baseline, and the same audit method is re-run every 90 days and compared against it, with an updated priority list for the next quarter. What TrustStack measures is your visibility and reputation over time — no one can promise a specific ranking or placement inside an AI answer, and we do not.
- Do I need the Audit before subscribing to TrustStack?
- The Audit is what establishes your baseline, so it is where nearly every engagement starts. Without a baseline, quarterly progress is an opinion instead of a measurement. If you would rather discuss the sequence for your business first, a 15-minute strategy call is the fastest way to sort it out.
Working Together
Location, hours and getting started
- Does tSMG work only in Orange County?
- Our focus is established local and regional B2C businesses across Orange County and Southern California — from western Orange County communities like Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Rossmoor and Cypress through Irvine, Newport Beach and the wider county. That focus is deliberate: local market knowledge matters for this work. We also take on businesses outside the region when the fit is right, since AI visibility and reputation work is not tied to a physical location. We will say so plainly if we do not think we are the right firm for your market.
- Where is tSMG located and when are you open?
- The Strategic Marketing Group is based in western Orange County and serves businesses across Orange County and Southern California. We work remotely and on site with clients rather than from a walk-in office, so the best ways to reach us are the phone at 714-598-2334 or the contact form. Hours are: Sunday closed; Monday 9:00 AM–4:00 PM; Tuesday 9:00–11:30 AM and 2:00–4:00 PM; Wednesday 9:00 AM–4:00 PM; Thursday 9:00 AM–4:00 PM; Friday 10:00 AM–4:00 PM; Saturday closed.
- How do I get started?
- Two ways. Buy the $97 AI Search Visibility Audit and we will start with facts about where you actually stand. Or schedule a 15-minute strategy call and talk it through first. Either one is a real starting point; neither commits you to a subscription.
